Torq 1.5 User Guide Chapter 1 52Torq 1.5 User Guide Chapter 9 52File List
The window to the right of the Browser pane is cal led the File List. If you have selected a source in the B rowser that contains
music (such as the Database or an individual f older), the songs contained therein will be list ed here. The File List not only shows
you the name of the song, but also shows the ar tist name, album name, track numb er, genre, and other fields contained within
the song’s ID3 tag. These additional categories c an help you find song with greater efficienc y.
✓ Note: While ID3 tags will support sto rage of the information listed above, it is co mmon to find music files with some (if not all)
of the ID3 fields blank. Even if the music file does not co ntain information for all categories, you ar e still able to fill in the missing
info by hand in order to aid in searching through your file s.
Editing Fields
Torq will extract the relevant song information from t he file’s ID3 tag in order to populate the fields of the File Lis t as
described above. You are free to edit the information shown in t he File List simply by double-clickin g a field, typing in new
data and hitting Enter.
It is important to note that Torq does not update t he song’s ID3 tag with your edits. Instead, your ed ited fields are
stored in a special file with the same na me as the song, but with the extension “.tqd” at the e nd. This is the Torq Data
file. By saving your edits to the TQD file, Torq can save your changes much f aster (changing an ID3 tag requires re-writ ing
the entire audio file, something that cou ld affect system performance du ring live use). Additionally, the audio file could
become corrupted during the re-writ e process. So, Torq leaves your precious music files untouched by saving dat a to the
TQD file.
