Torq 1.5 User Guide Chapter 1 29Torq 1.5 User Guide Chapter 5 29
When a mis-alignment occurs (as seen above), you’ll see th at the grid does not line up with the beginnings o f the beats
(transients) in the waveform. In the exampl e, the Phase Grid is too early, leaving a gap bet ween the grid lines and the transient s
in the waveform.
There are a number of ways to fix a mis-aligned Ph ase Grid. Which method you choose to use will probab ly depend on
whether you’re comfortable using the mouse and keyb oard, or whether you prefer to use external M IDI control. The results
are all the same, so choose whichever feels good for you .
Note: If the song you’re attempting to use has tempo var iations, Torq’s automatic beat and phase detection w ill not work. You
will have to manually set the tempo for the song us ing Tempo Anchors as detailed in Chapter 3 before you will be a ble to exploit
Torq’s automatic synchronization.
Adjusting with the Mouse
1. Hold down the Shift key, then click-and-dr ag left or right with the mouse.
2. The Phase Grid will move left or right, following your mouse movements .
3. Once you have aligned the thicker “downbeat” marker of the gr id to the downbeat of the music, release th e
mouse button.
Note: You can turn on Caps Lock instead of holding Shif t if you need to adjust the grid using just one hand. Turn off
Caps Lock when you’re finished so you can regain proper co ntrol of the waveforms.
Adjusting with Nudge Buttons
1. Hold down the Shift key, then click on one of the Nudg e buttons.
2. The Phase Grid will move left or right depending on which Nudge but ton you click.
3. Use the buttons to align the thicker “downbeat” marker of t he grid to the downbeat of the music.
Adjusting with Offset Buttons
1. Hold down the Shift key, then click on one of the Of fset buttons.
2. Instead of making a small change to t he Phase Grid, this will have the effect of m oving the grid an entire beat left
or right. This is a quick way to fix the Phas e Grid if it happens to be aligned to the beat s but has the downbeat in
the wrong location.
