Depth-of-fieldreferstothetotalarea(foregroundandbackground)whichwill appearinfocus(sharp).Theareaofsharpness(depth-of-field)dependsupon thedistancethelensisfocusedat,thef/stop(oraperture)beingused,andthe focallengthofthelens.Theareathatwillappearsharpcanbedeterminedin threeways:

1.TheDepth-of-Fieldcanbedirectlyviewedonthefocusingscreenbygently pushingtheDepth-of-Fieldpreviewleverupward,asfarasitwillgo.Whenre- leased,thespring-loadedleverwillreturntoitsoriginalpositionandatthe sametime,thediaphragmofthelenswillreturntomaximumapertureforbright

viewing.

2.Thedepth-of-fieldcanalsobedeterminedbyreferringtothedepth-of-field scaleengravedonthelensandwhichliesdirectlyabovetheaperturering.The f/stopnumbersareengravedonboththerightandleft-handsidesofthecenter referencemark.Simplylocatethef/stop(aperture)youareusingandreadthe

figureswhichappearabovethef/stopnumberonthedistancescaleofthelens. Forexample,withthe80mmf/2.8lensfocusedat10ft.(3m)andtheaperturering

settof/16,thedepth-of-fieldscalerevealsthateverythingfromabout7ft.(2m) toabout20ft.(6m)willappearsharp(seephotograph).

3.Thelenscanalsobe-stoppeddowntothepreselectedaperturefordirect viewingoftheDepth-of-FieldbyusingtheAMleveronthelensinsteadofthe cameraDepth-of-Fieldpreviewlever.Todoso,movetheleversothatM (Manual)isvisible.Youcantakeapictureinthisconditionwhileobservingthe Depth-of-Field.

*WhendesiringtousetheDepth-of-Fieldpreviewleverwiththe70mmf/2.8 lens(w/built-inbetween-the-lensshutter),firstsettheshutterspeedringofthe lenstoF(Focalplaneshutter)indexmark.
