Set Lengths for Code 39
The length of a code refers to the number of characters (i.e., hu man readable characters), including check digit(s)
the code contains. Set lengths for Code 39 for any length, on e or two discrete lengths, or lengths within a specific
range. If you enabled Code 39 Full ASCII, the preferred options are Length Within a Range or Any Length.
One Discrete Length - Select this option to decode only Code 39 symbols c ontaining a selected length. Select the
length using the numeric bar codes in Appendix D, Num eric Bar Codes. For example, to decode only Code 39
symbols with 14 characters, scan Code 39 - One Discrete Length, then scan 1 followe d by 4. To correct an error
or change a selection, scan Cancel on page D-3.
Code 39 - One Discrete Length
Two Discrete Lengths - Select this option to decode only Code 39 sy m b o l s c o n t a i n in g either o f t w o s e l e c t e d
lengths. Select the lengths using the numeric bar codes in Appendix D, Numeric Bar Codes. For example, to
decode only those Code 39 symbols containing either 2 or 14 charac ters, select Code 39 - Two Discrete
Lengths, then scan 0, 2, 1, and then 4. To correct an error or change a selection, scan Cancel on page D-3.
Code 39 - Two Discrete Lengths
Length Within Range - Select this option to decode a Code 39 symbol within a specific length range. Select
the lengths using the numeric bar codes in Appendix D, Nume ric Bar Codes. For example, to decode Code 39
symbol s conta ining between 4 and 12 characters, first scan Code 39 - Length Within Range. Then scan 0, 4, 1,
and 2 (include a leading zero for si n g le digit nu mbers). To correct an error or change a selection, scan Cancel on
page D-3.
Code 39 - Length Within Range
Any Length - Scan this option to decode Code 39 symbols containing any number of characters within the
scanner capability.
Code 39 - Any Length
NOTE When setting lengths for different bar code types, include a leading zero when scanning single digit
numbers.
