Long Time-Exposures

At a shutter speed of A, the shutter will remain open while the shutter-release button is held down. Use for long time-exposure photographs of moving lights, the stars, night scenery, or fireworks. A tripod and optional remote cord (0 356) are recommended to prevent blur.

1Ready the camera.

Mount the camera on a tripod or place it on a stable, level

surface. If you are using an optional remote cord, attach it to the camera. If you are not using a remote cord, choose On for Custom Setting d10 (Exposure delay mode, 0 278) to prevent blur when the camera shutter-release button is pressed.

Nikon recommends using a fully-charged EN-EL3e battery or an optional EH-5a or EH-5 AC adapter to prevent loss of power while the shutter is open. Note that noise and distortion may be present in long exposures; before shooting, choose On for the Long exp. NR option in the shooting menu (0 258).
