Incorrect interface cable being used.

Printer is not connected directly to the bidirectional parallel port.

To eliminate warmup delay, change Power Save setting in printer's online operator panel.

Verify that the interface cable is bidirectional, conforming to IEEE-1284 standards.

Printer must be connected directly to port; no switching device, external print buffer, scanning device, etc. can be attached to port.
