Recording and playing on this unit

Recording

This unit uses the “SD Audio Format”, an audio standard set down by the SD Association, which uses superior copyright protection technology.

Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI)

This is copyright-protection technology that encodes audio data to protect the rights of the producers of music, promote a healthy music industry, and protect the rights of the original purchaser of the music.

The use of this technology entails the following limita- tions.

This unit encodes music data for recording. You cannot copy this data to other equipment.

Encoded data cannot be backed-up or restored.

It may be impossible to use data if it has copyright pro- tection or if it was recorded on DVD Audio equipment.

Serial Copy Management System

(SCMS)

Recordings from CDs to SD memory cards are restricted by this system. Such recordings are of high quality, but it is not possible to record from CDs that are restricted by this system.

Playback

This unit’s CD section cannot play AAC, MP3, or WMA audio data.

This unit’s SD card section can only play audio data (AAC, MP3, and WMA) recorded using the SD Audio Format.

WMA (Windows Media Audio) is a compression format developed by Microsoft Corporation. It achieves the same sound quality as MP3 with a file size that is smaller than that of MP3.

CD and SD card information

CDs

Choose CDs with this mark:

Do not;

use CDs with labels and stickers that are coming off or with adhesive exuding from under labels and stickers.

attach scratch-proof covers or any other kind of accessory. write anything on the CD.

clean CDs with liquids. (Wipe with a soft, dry cloth.) use CDs printed with label printers available on the

market.

use irregularly shaped CDs.

CD-R and CD-RW discs

This unit can play CD-DA (digital audio) format audio CD-R and CD-RW that have been finalized (a process that enables CD-R and CD-RW players to play audio CD-R and CD-RW) upon completion of recording. It may not be able to play some CD-R/RW due to the condition of the recording.

SD cards

It may not be possible to use cards formatted on other equipment.

Protecting your recordings

Do not open the SD lid or connect or disconnect the power sources while operating the unit, especially while “CARD Writing” is on the unit’s display, as this can damage your data.

Set the write-protect switch to LOCK. Release the write-protect switch to make other recordings and to use the editing features.

Handling precautions

Store cards in their cases when not in use. Do not take apart.
