USING THE V-CHIP TV RATINGS CONTROL

The TV Ratings control can be very specific in the degree and

extent of program material cen- sored for TV viewing. Sub-settings fora variety of blocking factors can be manually switched On or Off for use within the major TV Ratings categories (TV-Y7, TV- PG, etc.).

BEGIN

1With the V-CHIP SETUP Menu onscreen press the Menu button repeatedly, or use the Cursor () Up and Down () buttons, to select TV RATINGS with the TV’s highlight control bar.

2Press the Cursor Right () or Left () button on the remote to use the TV RATINGS selection chart.

3Press the Menu button repeatedly, or use the Cursor () Up and Down () buttons, to select the desired TV RAT- INGS level. For example, TV-PG.

Press the Cursor Right () but-

4ton on the remote to select the specific category (ALL, V, S, L, D) within the TV RATING.

A blinking indicator will show which category bracket is active.

Press the Menu button, or use

5Cursor () Up and Down

(), on the remote to select (X) the specific blocking category for use.

Note: Selecting “ALL” (or indi- vidually adjusting the V, S, L, D settings) for any one rating will set all other higher level ratings to be automatically blocked as well.

6Press STATUS/EXIT to save the specific TV Rating setting. Then press the remote control Cursor buttons to move to the next category area for setup or use.

The TV-Y7; TV-PG; TV-14; and TV-MA guide- lines also include customized settings for various additional items such as V (violence), S (sexual situations), L (coarse language), and D (sugges- tive dialogue). These additional settings are cate- gory specific and can be individually selected for use as desired.

TV-Y - Appropriate for all children:

Designed for a very young audience, including children ages 2-6. This type of programming is not expected to frighten younger children.

TV-Y7 -Appropriate for children seven and older: It may be more appropriate for chil- dren who have acquired the development skills needed to distinguish between make-believe and reality. This programming may include mild fan- tasy and comic violence.

TV-G - General Audience: This type of programming contains little or no violence, no strong language, and little or no sexual dialogue or situations.

TV-PG - Parental Guidance suggested: This type of programming contains one or more of the following: Moderate violence (V), some sexual situations (S), infrequent coarse language (L), or some suggestive dialogue (D).

TV-14 - Unsuitable for children under 14: This type of programming contains one or more of the following: intense violence (V), intense sexual situations (S), strong coarse lan- guage (L), or intensely suggestive dialogue (D).

TV-MA - Mature audience only: This type of programming contains one or more of the following: graphic violence (V), explicit sexual situations (S), or crude indecent language (L).
