5.5.5 Serial Port
The IKVM-1000 Serial Settings allows you to specify what device is connected to the serial port and how to use it.
Configuration or console login
Use the Serial Port only for the initial configuration.
Modem
The IKVM-1000 offers remote access using a telephone line in addition to the standard access over the built-in Ethernet adapter. The modem needs to be connected to the serial interface of the IKVM-1000 .
Logically, connecting to the IKVM-1000 using a telephone line means nothing else than building up a dedicated point-to-point connection from your console computer to the IKVM-1000. In other words, the IKVM-1000 acts as an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to which you can dial in. The connection is established using the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP).
