Starting the Engine
IMPORTANT!
Engine ignition is controlled by a two position switch mounted on the throttle housing labeled, “I” for ON or START and “O” for OFF or STOP.
Slide the ignition switch to the “ON” 1. position.
Set the throttle lever to the “fast idle”:2.
Depress and hold the throttle lock, a. then squeeze the throttle lever
toward the handgrip on the shaft
tube.
Depress and hold the fast idle b.button.
While depressing the fast idle but-c.ton, r elease the throttle trigger.
Press the primer bulb until fuel can 3. be seen flowing in the transparent
return tube.
WARNING!
Never start the engine from the operating position.
The cutting attachment will move when the engine accelerates!
Set the choke lever to the CLOSED 4. position if engine is cold.
Place the unit on the ground. Grip the 5. engine cover with your left hand and
the starter handle with your right hand
(shown).
IMPORTANT!
The primer system only pushes fuel
through the carburetor. Repeatedly press-
ing the primer bulb will not flood the
engine with fuel.

KEEP CLEAR OF THE CUT-
TING ATTACHMENT DURING START-
ING OPERATIONS! THE CUTTERS MAY
MOVE WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED!
Place the trimmer on the ground Ŷduring all starting operations.
Make sure you have a secure

the unit as well.
Keep all bystanders and pets well
Ŷclear of the trimmer during starting
operations.
IMPORTANT!
If the engine fails to start after several
attempts with the choke in the closed
position, the engine may be flooded with
fuel. Refer to the “Starting a Flooded
Engine” section of this manual.
Pull the starter handle slowly toward 6. you until you feel the starter mecha-
nism engage.
Start the trimmer by pulling the start-7. ing handle rapidly outward.
This unit comes completely asembled.
Before using this product, please make
sure you have all the components
required for a complete unit. Carefully
inspect all components for damage.
