Selecting different fonts

If you are running applications software under Windows, you will select fonts from within your applica- tion (refer to your application’s manual for details).

Your applications software manual will tell you the vari- ous ways in which you can type-set your text on-screen so that it is ready to print out on the printer.

Your Windows system already includes several fonts, such as Arial, Times New Roman and Symbol. You can also use the 15 TrueType fonts included with the printer. If you have installed Adobe Type Manager soft- ware on your computer, you can also display and print Adobe PostScript fonts.

In MS-DOS

Selecting different fonts

If you are running applications software under MS-DOS, you can either use the printer’s control panel to select the printer’s built-in fonts, as described on page 30 of Chapter 3, or use your application to select fonts installed on your computer (refer to your application’s manual for details). You can also set up the printer to ignore font selections made by your applications soft- ware, so that font selections can only be made from the control panel. This is described on page 54.

Changing the character pitch

Changing the font pitch allows you to condense text into a smaller area. It also enables you to vary the appear- ance of text in a single font.

The character pitch of printed text is determined by the current Electronic DIP Switch print pitch setting (see page 43).

There are four pitch settings available: 10, 12, 15 and 17 characters per inch.
