Charging the battery

Before you can use the battery to power the computer, you

must charge it. Connect the computer to a live power outlet

using the AC adapter and power cable. The on/off light glows

green and the battery light glows amber to show that it is

charging.

Once the computer is connected to a power outlet, you can

charge the battery with the computer turned off or on. It takes

several hours to charge the battery when the computer is off.

It takes much longer to charge the battery when the computer

is on. If the computer is not consuming full power, the time

required to charge the battery is reduced.

CAUTION: Once the battery is charged for the first time, avoid

leaving the computer plugged in and turned off for more than a few

hours at a time. Continuing to charge a fully charged battery can

damage the battery.

The computer is not accessing the hard disk or the diskette drive. The AC adapter and power cable work correctly, but the battery will not charge. The battery appears not to power the computer for as long as it usually does. Keyboard problems The keyboard produces unexpected characters. Display problems The display is blank. The screen does not look right. The built-in screen flickers. Disk drive problems Error-checking Your hard disk seems very slow. Your data files are damaged or corrupted. Some programs run correctly but others do not. A diskette will not go into the external diskette drive. The computer displays the Non-system disk or disk error DVD-ROM or DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly, but others do not. WinDVD problems: general issues WinDVD controls are disabled. Playback performance is poor. The Root or Title menu does not open. WinDVD performance decreases after making a system change. Slow playback performance. Modem problems The modem will not receive or transmit properly. Develop good computing habits Save your work frequently. On a regular basis, back up the information stored on your hard disk.
