2 Overview: Installation steps

This chapter contains an overview of the steps necessary to install your Server Blade. The cross-references take you to the sections containing more detailed information on the relevant installation step:

ÊFirst read the chapter "Important notes" from page 23, particularly the section "Safety instructions".

ÊUnpack the Server Blade, check the contents of the package for visible transport damage and check whether the items delivered correspond to the details on the delivery note (see section "Unpacking the server" on page 34).

ÊTransport the server blade to the place where you want to set it up.

ÊMake sure that you have all necessary manuals (see page 11); print out the PDF files if required.

ÊInstall the server blade in your BX900 S1 system unit (see section 4.2 on page 34).

ÊFamiliarize yourself with the controls and indicators on the front of the server blade (see "Control and display elements" on page 41).

ÊInstall the operating system and applications on the server blade. When doing so, you have the following options:

Clone the server blade from a remote image server using the ServerView Deployment Manager. Cloning the ServerView Deployment Manager from a remote image server.

This procedure is recommended if the following conditions are met:

ServerView Deployment Manager software is available.

You have a suitable clone image.

A Deployment Server and LAN connection are available.

Remote installation with ServerView Installation Manager

This installation method is recommended if you have a LAN connection and a DHCP server (Deployment Server) available, but the cloning requirements are not met.
