5.1 Channel Scanning - Choosing a scan method

APC KVM Switch's scanning feature allows you to automatically monitor, or scan, your computer channels without intervention. When keyboard activity is detected, scanning is suspended until all keyboard activity stops. Scanning then resumes with the next channel in sequence. Mouse activity will not affect scanning in any way. The length of time each channel remains on the screen, or dwell time, is configurable and can be changed at any time.

There are two ways to scan through the channels in your APC KVM Switch system, either sequentially or numerically.

Scanning sequentially allows you to view each of your active channels in the order in which they are attached to the APC KVM Switch. The amount of time each channel remains on the screen, or dwell time, is configurable and is the same for all channels.

Scanning numerically allows you to scan all your channels in alphanumeric order according to the channel list in the main OSD Window. With this scan method, you can adjust the dwell time for each channel or omit a channel from the scan sequence completely.

Choose whichever method is most appropriate for your configuration.
