Maintenance Mode

When power is applied to the 5992, it begins Power-up diagnostics. If the status of all tests is “Passed,” a tone sounds. To enter Maintenance Mode, immediately touch the stylus to the NCR logo at the upper right corner of the screen.

Note: If you wait too long, the 5992 will enter normal mode and you will have to power off and start over.

The Maintenance Mode displays permit you to select options that modify the operation of the 5992. Instructions are displayed, and options are selected with the touch of the stylus.

The main menu displays the firmware and software identification numbers plus the following choices:

SETUP procedures to establish operating parameters

DIAGNOSTICS to verify operation

RUN to terminate Maintenance Mode and initiate Normal Mode of operation

LOAD APPLICATION to make the 5992 ready to receive a download of the operating system

The RUN option of the main menu terminates Maintenance Mode and initiates Normal Mode operation.

Performing a Setup

Enter SETUP from the Maintenance Mode menu by touching the stylus to the SETUP selection. SETUP lets you do any of the following:

Calibrate the digitizer

Adjust the screen contrast

Set the EIA-485 link address

Set the EIA-232 mode (manual or automatic)

Doodle (tests the stylus and digitizer)
