5.Repeatedly press PLAY or STOP to high- light C/A RECORD, then press FF to select ON or OFF.

ON — With this setting, when you press STOP to end a recording, the VCR prompts you, when you stop recording or turn the VCR off, to have commercials marked.

OFF — The VCR does not mark commer- cials.

6.When you finish setting up Commercial Advance, press MENU three times.

Notes:

It takes several minutes for the VCR to mark the recording.

The VCR marks commercials in a timer recording after the recording stops (see “Automatic Timer Recording” on Page 37).

If the interval between two timer recordings is not long enough to allow commercial marking, the VCR waits until after the next timer recording.

The VCR can store up to eight timer recording settings or 40 commercial loca- tions in memory at one time. When the

memory becomes full, the remaining com- mercials are not marked.

The Commercial Advance feature turns off if there is a power failure.

If you rewind the tape and start another recording before power is turned off, com- mercials might not be correctly marked.

Marking an Unmarked Tape

You can go back and add Commercial Ad- vance markings to a tape you’ve already re- corded.

1.Insert the tape on which you want to add the marking(s). Be sure the erase-protec- tion tab is in place (see “Erase Protection” on Page 32).

2.Use FF or REW to position the tape to a point 2 to 3 minutes before the first com- mercial begins.

3.Press MENU to display the main menu.

4.Repeatedly press PLAY or STOP to high- light SET UP VCR, then press FF.

5.Repeatedly press PLAY or STOP to high- light SET UP COMMERCIAL ADV., then press FF.

6.Repeatedly press PLAY or STOP to high- light MARK UNMARKED TAPE., then press FF. START MARKING FROM CUR- RENT TAPE POSITION. appears.

7.Press PLAY and let the recording play to the end. CA flashes on the VCR’s display. Press STOP twice at the end of the record- ing. The VCR rewinds the tape, displays

NOW MARKING COMMERCIALS on the TV screen for a few seconds, then searches for and marks the commercial portion(s).

Notes:

CA continues to flash on the VCR’s dis- play until the VCR has finished marking commercials.
