10 Monitoring array performance using HP P6000 Performance Data Collector

With HP P6000 Command View server-based management, you can use HP P6000 Performance Data Collector (formerly HP Command View EVAPerf) to monitor and display array performance metrics from a command line interface or a graphical user interface. HP P6000 Performance Data Collector is not directly available on array-based management; however, HP P6000 Performance Data Collector can be installed on a host or server with an Fibre Channel connection to the array. This allows you to monitor performance with array-based management. You can also view performance metrics in an external application, such as Microsoft Excel, after you export data to either a comma-separated value (CSV) or tab-separated value (TSV) format.

HP P6000 Performance Data Collector can use any available path to retrieve metrics. However, when used with VMware ESX 3.5, metrics are provided for one controller only.

You can monitor and display the following metrics:

•Arrays

•Array controllers

•Disk group information

•DR groups

•DR tunnels

•Host connections

•Host port statistics

•Physical disks

•Port status

•Virtual disks

IMPORTANT: For UAC-enabled systems, when you install or run HP P6000 Performance Data Collector, you must use the Run As Administrator option.

Components

HP P6000 Performance Data Collector components are installed in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\EVA Performance Monitor

The software components are:

•evapdcs.exe—EVA Data Collection service, which gathers data from the arrays that are visible to a host and stores it in memory cache

•evaperf.exe —HP P6000 Performance Data Collector command line interface

•evapmext.dll—DLL extension for Windows Performance Monitor, the graphical user interface

•EVAPerf-TLViz-Formatter.exe–HP P6000 Performance Data Collector TLViz Formatter user interface, which formats the HP P6000 Performance Data Collector all/nall command output so you can view it with the HP TLViz tool

•EVADATA.MDB–A Microsoft Access database template you can use to view the all command output in a database. The data from the command output resides in individual tables.

•MSADODC.OCX–A file required to operate the HP P6000 Performance Data Collector TLVIZ Formatter user interface
