Responding to

emergencies

Norton AntiVirus notifies you that it has detected a virus or other security risk when one of the following has occurred:

1Auto-Protect has found a virus while monitoring your computer.

1A virus scan that you scheduled or started manually has found a virus.

With default settings, Norton AntiVirus automatically attempts to repair any virus it finds. If it can’t repair the file, Norton AntiVirus safely quarantines the file, so that it cannot harm your computer. Usually, Norton AntiVirus performs these repairs without any action by you.

In certain circumstances, Norton AntiVirus asks you whether you want to repair, delete, or restore an infected file. Your responses determine what Norton AntiVirus does with the infected file.

wFor more information about a particular virus, refer to the Symantec Security Response Web site.
