HD RadioTM technology is a new technology that enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast programs digitally. Digital broadcasting provides listeners with radically improved audio quality and reception as well as new data services. Furthermore, supplemental program services allow listeners to select from up to 8 HD Radio programs multicast on a single FM HD Radio channel. For more information on HD RadioTM technology, visit “www.ibiquity.com”.

XM HD Surround uses Neural SurroundTM technology to achieve optimal surround sound from XM radio.

There are several factors that can degrade the sound from even the best loudspeakers in a listening room. One of the most important is the interaction of sound from the loudspeakers with large surfaces such as walls, the fl oor, and the ceiling in the room. Even with careful loudspeaker placement and acoustical treatments, there are significant problems that are caused by room acoustics. These include reflections from nearby surfaces and standing waves that are created between large parallel surfaces in the room. In a home theater the situation is further complicated because there are several listening locations. The effects of room acoustics on the sound arriving at each person’s ears are very different and the result is a listening experience that is degraded in a different way for every person in the room. It is not uncommon to have variations in two adjacent seats that are as large as 10 dB, particularly in the frequency range below 250 Hz.

The solution to this problem is to apply room correction after precisely measuring how each loudspeaker interacts with the room. Because the room causes variations in the frequency response of the loudspeakers that are so large from seat to seat, it is important to measure each loudspeaker at several locations in the listening room. This should be done even if there is only one listener. Measurement at a single location is not representative of the acoustical problems in the room and will in most cases, degrade overall performance. Audyssey MultEQ is the only technology that can achieve room correction for multiple listeners in a large listening area. It does so by combining the data collected at several points in the room from each loudspeaker and then applying correction that minimizes the acoustical effects of the room and is matched to the frequency resolution of human perception (known as psychoacoustics). Furthermore, MultEQ correction is applied both in frequency and time domains and so there are no artifacts (such as smearing of sound or modal ringing)that are sometimes associated with traditional methods of room equalization.

In addition to correcting frequency response problems over a wide listening area, Audyssey MultEQ provides

acompletely automated sound system set-up process. It identifi es how many loudspeakers are connected to the amplifiers and whether they are full- range, satellites, or subwoofers. If there is a least one subwoofer connected, Audyssey MultEQ determines the optimum crossover frequency between each satellite and the subwoofer(s). It automatically checks the polarity of each loudspeaker and alerts the user if there are any that may be wired out- of-phase relative to the others. It measures the distance to each loudspeaker from the main listening position and adjusts the delays so that sound from each loudspeaker arrives at the same time. Finally, Audyssey MuitEQ determines the playback level of each loudspeaker and adjusts the volume trims so that all levels are equal.

SR7002, SR8002 specifications

The Marantz SR8002 and SR7002 are two of the most acclaimed receivers from Marantz, a widely respected name in the high-fidelity audio and home theater industry. These models embody a blend of advanced technology, exceptional sound quality, and aesthetic design, making them ideal for audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts alike.

The SR8002 stands out with its impressive 7.1 channel configuration and powerful amplification capabilities. It uses a unique current feedback amplifier design, which ensures a wider frequency response and lower distortion, delivering a more dynamic soundstage. The receiver offers 130 watts per channel, guaranteeing ample power for driving even the most demanding speakers. Support for various audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio further enhances the listening experience, providing immersive sound particularly suitable for high-definition movie playback.

In terms of connectivity, the SR8002 is equipped with an extensive array of inputs and outputs, including seven HDMI inputs which support 1080p and 4K resolution pass-through. This makes it compatible with an extensive range of devices, from gaming consoles to Blu-ray players. Users can also enjoy video upscaling through the built-in Faroudja DCDi Cinema technology, which ensures that lower resolution sources are enhanced for a more detailed viewing experience.

On the other hand, the SR7002, while slightly older, is not to be overlooked. It features a 7.1 channel setup as well, but with 125 watts per channel, ensuring it still delivers superb performance. The SR7002 is particularly recognized for its high-quality Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, and other multi-channel audio formats, which enhances the listening experience. The sloped front panel design and the high-grade components used contribute significantly to its durable build and sonic performance.

Both models include features like Zone 2 and Zone 3 outputs for multi-room audio setups, allowing users to enjoy different audio sources in different rooms simultaneously. The inclusion of Audyssey MultEQ technology in both receivers automates speaker calibration, optimizing the sound field according to the room's acoustics for a more balanced audio experience.

Aesthetically, both receivers have a classic Marantz look with sleek lines and a distinctive gold and black front panel design, which could seamlessly blend into any home entertainment setup. The combination of their advanced technologies, robust build quality, and user-friendly interface ensure that both the SR8002 and SR7002 maintain their status as favorites among home theater aficionados and those who appreciate high-fidelity audio.
