Changing the BIOS language

You can use the BIOS update utility to change the language used for text in the BIOS setup user interface:

1Insert the diskette holding the BIOS update files into the floppy drive and boot the server.

2Follow the instructions that appear on the screen, choosing to update the language files.

3When the utility finishes updating the BIOS, remove the diskette from floppy drive and reboot the system.

Firmware updates

The Firmware Update Utility is a DOS-based program used to update the BMC and HSC firmware code. You need to run the utility only if a new firmware code is necessary. The utility is included with the firmware update file.

To update the firmware:

1Download the firmware update along with any ReadMe, Release Notes, and other files listed on the Web page for the update.

2Print and read the ReadMe, Release Notes, and any other text or document files that came with the update. The files from the Web page contain the latest information and instructions for the update, which supersedes the information in this User’s guide.

3Follow the installation instructions that came with the update.

4After the update is complete, if you are updating the BMC firmware, disconnect the AC power cord from the system and wait for 60 seconds.

5Follow the installation instructions that came with the update.

Note: To complete the update of the BMC firmware, you must disconnect the AC power cord to remove the standby power from the BMC. Removing the standby power forces the BMC to reset, which is necessary to complete the update.

6 Reconnect the AC power cord and power up the system.
