6-10 Solving Problems
Correcting Printer ErrorsPrinter errors occur when the printer is unable to continue printing due to a
malfunctioning printer component.
This error message appears when printer logic detects defective memory
during a printer memory test. Memory tests occur at power up and when
you select the Memory test on the Setup menu. When this error message
appears, the ### in the message is replaced by the number of the socket
containing the bad memory.
Corrective action: You must replace the memory chip in the indicated
socket. Contact your Service Representative for assistance. If this mes-
sage displays during the Setup menu Memory test, you may be able to
clear the message and return to the Setup menu by turning the Select-dial.
This error message appears when the printer is unable to detect the car-
riage at the home position due to a jammed ribbon, dirty carriage shaft, or
malfunctioning carriage home sensor.

9Try replacing the ribbon cartridge with another (refer to Replacing
the Ribbon Cartridge in the Cleaning and Maintenace section).

9If the error recurs, try cleaning the carriage shaft (refer to Cleaning
the Main Carriage Shaft in the Cleaning and Maintenance sec-
tion).
