Connecting to the customer’s network

The media servers connect directly to the customer’s network. The following section provides information on connecting the media server to the customer’s network.

In a typical configuration, you connect to the network through a port on the back of the Avaya S8700 or S8710 Media Server, using a standard CAT5 cable with RJ45 connectors on each end. Typically, for an IP Connect configuration, you connect through port 1 (Eth0). For a Multi-Connect configuration, you connect through port 5 (Eth4). The other end of the cable connects to an Ethernet switch (router), hub, or token ring.
