Shifting Out of Park
Your vehicle has an automatic transmission shift
lock control system. You have to apply your regular
brake first and then press the shift lever button
before you can shift from PARK(P). See Automatic
Transmission Operation (Four Speed Transmission)
on page 2-28 or Automatic Transmission Operation
(Six Speed Transmission) on page2-30.
If you cannot shift out of PARK(P), ease pressure
on the shift lever and push the shift lever all the way
into PARK(P) as you maintain brake application. Then
press the shift lever button and move the shift lever
into the gear you wish.
Parking Over Things That Burn
{CAUTION:
Things that can burn could touch hot exhaust
parts under your vehicle and ignite. Do not
park over papers, leaves, dry grass, or other
things that can burn.
Engine Exhaust
{CAUTION:
Engineexhaust can kill. It contains the gas
carbonmonoxide (CO), which you cannot see or
smell.It can cause unconsciousness and death.
Youmight have exhaust coming in if:
Theexhaust system sounds strange or
different.
Yourvehicle gets rusty underneath.
Yourvehicle was damaged in a collision.
Yourvehicle was damaged when driving
overhigh points on the road or over road
debris.
Repairswere not done correctly.
Yourvehicle or the exhaust system has
beenmodified improperly.
Ifyou ever suspect exhaust is coming into your
vehicle:
Driveit only with all the windows down to
blowout any CO.
Haveyour vehicle fixed immediately.
