beinstalledinanyavailablechassisslotintheMatrixE7chassis,butoperateasindividual
moduleswithseparateIPaddresses.EachmoduleisconfiguredusingLocalManagement.
Rule:The6x3xxmodulescanbeinstalledinanyavailablechassisslotintheMatrixE7chassis.

Showschassisslots1through5populatedwithfirstandsecondgenerationmodules(6x1xxand
6x2xx).Ifa6x1xxor6x2xxseriesmoduleisinstalledinslot6or7,itwilloperateinstandalone
mode(nobackplaneconnectivity).Likethe6x3xxmodules,the6x1xxand6x2xxmodulesoperate
asindividualmoduleswithseparateIPaddresses,andeachoneisconfiguredusingLocal
Management.
Rule:The6x1xxand6x2xxmodulescancommunicatewitheachotherwhentheyareinstalledin
chassisslots1through5intheMatrixE7chassis.Ifinstalledinslot6or7,theyoperatein
standalonemode.

Showschassisslots1through5populatedwithamixof6x1xx,6x2xx,and6x3xxmodulesand
onlythirdgenerationmodulesinslots6and7.
Inthismodulearrangement,the6x3xxmoduleprovidesaproxybridge,whichenablesthe6x1xx
and6x2xxmodulestocommunicatewith6x3xxmodulesinslot6or7.Ifmorethanone6x3xx
moduleisinstalledinslots1to5,themoduleinthelowestnumberedslotperformstheproxy
functionforslots6and7.Therefore,ifa6x3xxmoduleisalreadyperformingtheproxyfunction,
andanother6x3xxmoduleisinsertedintoalowernumberedslot,connectivitywillbetemporarily
interrupted,asthenewboardtakesovertheproxyfunction.Whena6x3xxmoduleinalower
numberedslotisremoved,andthereisa6x3xxmoduleinahighernumberedslot,communication
isnotinterrupted.
ForLocalManagement,pluggingtheLocalManagementconnectionintothe6x3xxmoduleswill
allowmanagementconnectionstoall6x1xx,6x2xx,and6x3xxmodules.IftheLocalManagement
connectionistoa6x1xxor6x2xxboard,onlythemodulesinthefirstfiveslotswillberecognized
bythemanagementclient.
Rule:Theremustbeatleastone6x3xxmoduleinslots1through5toenablecommunications
betweenthe6x1xx,6x2xx,and6x3xxmodules.

Showschassisslots1and5populatedwith6x1xxand6x2xxmodules,respectively;slots2
through4withDFEDiamondmodules,butnotaDFEDiamondbridgingmodule;andslots6and
7with6x3xxmodules.
Inthismodulearrangement,the6x1xxand6x2xxmodulesinslots1and5canonlycommunicate
witheachother,becausethereisno6x3xxmoduleinoneofthefirstfiveslotstoserveastheproxy
bridgetocommunicatewiththe6x3xxmodulesinslots6and7.The7x4xxxDFEDiamond
modulesinslots2,3,and4willoperateunderoneIPaddress.Sincethereisnobridgingmodule,
theDFEDiamondmoduleswillnotcommunicatewithanyothermodulesinthechassis.
Rule:Inthisexample,theremustbeatleastone6x3xxseriesmoduleandaDFEDiamond
bridgingmoduleinslots1through5toenablecommunicationsbetweenallgenerationsof
modulesinthechassis.
