8500/8500c Physical Track Structure

In 8500/8500c format, an EXB-8505 or EXB-8505XL uses the W1 and W2 heads to write two partially overlapping physical tracks on the tape for each revolution of its head/drum assembly. The width of each track is 15.5 μm. During a read operation, the tape drive uses the R1 and R2 heads to read the two tracks.

Figure 2-3 shows the physical track structure on a tape written in 8500 and 8500c format.
