System board

The features of the system board are described in the technical manual for the system board D2550 for the hardware and in the “BIOS Setup” for the firmware (see “Literature” on page 77).

Hard disk drives

The server is equipped with a drive bay in which up to 2 SAS HDD modules can be inserted. Each HDD module can accommodate a SAS hard disk drive with a

2.5inch format. The module is connected to the SAS backplane without cables via the SAS interface. This allows hard disk drive modules to be easily plugged in or pulled out.

The hard disk subsystem is designed for SAS, each with one channel for each hard disk drive.

If the server has the corresponding RAID configuration, HDD modules can also be exchanged during operation.

A hard disk drive extension box can be installed optionally (with a maximum of three HDD modules).

Onboard SAS controller with Integrated Mirroring Enhanced functionality

An onboard SAS controller with "Integrated Mirroring Enhanced" (IME) function- ality is fitted to operate the six hard drives. IME also provides RAID functionality for configuring the internal hard drives (RAID level 0, 1, 1E).

IA separate utility is available to the controller for IME configuration. For further information, refer to the “Integrated Mirroring User’s Guide” on the ServerBooks DVD (select “Controllers” from the menu).
