Troubleshooting IP

Problem: An external router is connected to my switch. I can ping the router interface on my network but cannot reach any networks beyond the router.

Solution: Use the following solutions:

￿Verify that the gateway IP address(es) on the endstation(s) points to the IP address of the VLAN(s) it is connected to. Also, verify that your own IP address and that of the end station you are trying to connect to is correct

￿Ensure that RIP is active per VLAN.

VLAN/CONFIG >modify <vlan#>

￿Check the Routing table on the switch to verify that all networks are learned. If not, you may need to configure a default route of 0.0.0.0.

/INET/SHOW >route /INET/CONFIG/ROUTE >default

￿Verify that the user endstation(s) and the VLAN(s) on the switch are using the same subnet masks.

/VLAN/SHOW >vrouter

￿Check all router interfaces to ensure they are up and active.

￿Verify that the HS150 port is in the correct VLAN.

/VLAN/SHOW >vlan

￿Check broadcast address on the router to verify that it is the same as the end node expects. On the HiSpeed switch, type:

/VLAN/CONFIG >modify <vlan#>

Problem: Performance is slow when routing across different networks.

Solution: Use the following solutions:

￿By default, IP Forwarding is enabled on the switch. Configure the switch for Route Cache Forwarding.

/INET/CONFIG/ipr
