Troubleshooting LANE

Draft Level—Hitachi Confidential

Basic ATM Concepts

If your ATM configuration is corrupt, delete your ATM file from the CLI (rm atm.cur), reset the switch, and re-configure ATM.

Signaling changes may require you to reboot the switch.

Troubleshooting LANE

Problem: I’ve created a LEC service but still cannot connect to the ATM network.

Solution: Use the following solutions:

￿Verify the LEC has been created, admin status is enabled, and protocol state is ‘active’. Use the following command:

/ATM/SHOW/lec <lec id> /ATM/CONFIG/ENABLE/lec <lec id>

￿Ensure that you are using a valid LEC id. Valid LEC values ranges from 0 through 31

/ATM/CONFIG/CREATE/lec <lec id>

￿Ensure the ATM port is configured for SVC mode and ILMI is enabled. By default, the ATM port is set to ‘PVC’ mode and ILMI disabled.

/ATM/CONFIG/MODIFY> port

Problem: The LEC connection is up and active but I cannot ping across the ATM network.

Solution: Use the following solutions:

￿Verify that all IP addresses, subnet masks, gateways are set correctly on the VLANs and any attached devices.

￿Verify that the ATM port service has been bound to each VLAN.

/PORTSERV/CONFIG/create 34 vps 34

￿Verify all ATMLANE ports are in a ‘Forwarding’ state using vvp

￿Depending on Spanning Tree, this process may take up to 20 seconds.
