14. Turn the wing nut to set the spring length.

15. Check the blade brake adjustment (page 69).

Install the belt cover.

Blade Brake Adjustment

Check the blade brake adjustments whenever the deck belt

is adjusted or replaced.

Moving belts and pulleys can cause serious injuries.

Do not operate engine with the belt cover removed.

Before removing belt cover for maintenance, remove key

from ignition switch and disconnect all spark plug leads.

Move the blade control OFF.

2. Remove the belt cover.

3. The swivel on the brake rod should be in the center of its slot

on the tensioner pulley arm. If it isn’t, remove the spring pin

and washer and adjust it.

4. Check the spring length.

MINIMUM SPRING LENGTH (Hook to Hook):

4’/2 inches (114 mm)

5. If the spring length is less

than specification, move

the S-hook on the spring

to the next hole.

6. Recheck the position of

the swivel and adjust if

necessary.

7. Install the belt cover.
