4 Server instance file reference

This chapter provides an overview of the files that are specific to an instance of the HP-UX Directory Server (Directory Server).Having an overview of the files and configuration information stored in each instance of Directory Server helps with understanding the file changes (or lack of file changes) which occur in the course of directory activity. It can als help to detect errors and intrusion by indicating what kind of changes to expect and, as a result, what changes are abnormal.

4.1 Overview of Directory Server files

The files, tools, and scripts used by Directory Server are in the locations listed in the following directories.

4.2 Backup files

Each Directory Server instance contains the following directory and file for storing backup-related files:

•/var/opt/dirsrv/slapd-instance_name/bak

This contains a directory dated with the instance_name, time and date of the database backup, such as instance_name-2009_05_02_16_56_05/, which in turn holds the database backup copy.

•/etc/opt/dirsrv/slapd-instance_name/dse_original.ldif

This is a backup copy of the dse.ldif configuration file from the time of installation.

4.3Configuration files

Each Directory Server instance stores its configuration files in the /etc/opt/dirsrv/slapd-instance_namedirectory. The configuration files in this directory are explained in “Overview of the Directory Server configuration”.

4.4 Database files

Each Directory Server instance contains the /var/opt/dirsrv/slapd-instance_name/db directory for storing all the database files. The following is a sample listing of the /var/opt/dirsrv/slapd-instance_name/db directory contents.
