The Symptom-to-FRU index lists error symptoms and possible causes. The most
likely cause is listed first. Always begin with ″General Checkout″on page 1. This
index can also be used to help you decide which FRUs to have available when
servicing a computer. If you areunable to correct the problem using this index, go
to “Undetermined problems”on page 79.
Notes:
vIf you have both an error message and an incorrect audio response, diagnose the error
message first.
vIf you cannot run the diagnostic tests or you get a diagnostic error code when running a
test, but did receive a POST error message, diagnose the POST error message first.
vIf you did not receive any error message, look for a description of your error symptoms
in the first part of this index.
vCheck all power supply voltages before you replace the system board(see “Power
supply”on page 35).
vCheck the hard disk drive jumper settings before you replacea hard disk drive (see
“Hard disk drive jumper settings”on page 25).
Important:
Some errors are indicated with a series of beep codes (see “Beep symptoms”on page 60).
Type2271/6840/6841 computers default to come up quiet (no beep and no memory count
and checkpoint code display) when no errors are detected by POST.To enable beep and
memory count and checkpoint code display when a successful POST occurs, do the
following:
1. Select Start Options in the Configuration/Setup Utility program (see “Setup Utility
program”on page 8).
2. Set Power-On Self-Testto Enhanced.
The processor is a separate FRU from the system board; the processoris not included with
the system board FRU.
