Introduction

When to use the module

The 1000SX Advanced Module (ES500MSXA) can only be used with Intel Express 500 Series Switches. It provides a high-speed link be- tween the switch or group of switches containing this module and anoth- er device, switch or group of switches. The 1000SX Advanced Module supports the IEEE 802.1Q standard and the Gigabit standard IEEE 802.3, 1998.

Supporting the IEEE 802.1Q standard enables the switch, or stack, con- taining this module to handle both tagged and untagged frames, ensur- ing that they are forwarded to the correct destinations.
