Thefollowing activities will help students learn about
continents,bodies of water, and other great facts about
theworld. However, since there is so much to learn and
teachabout our world, the possibilities are endless!
Activity 1: Water World
1. Hold up the globe and explain that the world is
madeof land and water.
2. Ask the students what they think there is more of
landor water?
3. Draw two columns on a board: one labeled Land
andthe other labeled Water.
4. Ask a volunteer to be blindfolded.
5. Ask the class what they think the blindfolded
studentwill touch.
6. Instruct the blindfolded student to touch the globe
withtheir index finger and then take off their
blindfoldto see what their finger is touching.
7. Record the result on the board.
8. Spin the globe around and ask for another
volunteerto do the same thing.
9. Continue in this way until all the students have had
achance to touch the globe. Make sure to record
theresults on the board.
10.What were the findings? (Water should have been
touchedthe most.) Earth is made of mostly water.
Discussthis fact as a class.
Activity 2: Country Toss
1. Have all the students stand in a group.
2. Explain that you are going to toss the globe into
theair.
3. The student who catches the globe must name a
countrythat begins with the letter “A."
4. After that student correctly names a country with
theletter "A," that student then tosses the globe to
anotherstudent.
5. The next student who catches the globe should
namea country that begins with the letter "B."
6. Play continues until all the letters of alphabet are
used.However, if you want you may run through
thealphabet again, but now using different country
names.
Variation:
Trythis game with major cities, both in the
USand around the world! The student should name the
cityand the state and/or the country where the city is
located.
