Reference Manual for the Model RP614 Web Safe Router
Advanced Configuration of the Router 7-5
The Default DMZ Server feature is helpful wh en using some online games and videoconferenci ng
applicationsthat are incompatible with NAT.The router is programmed to recognize some of
these applicationsand to work properly with them, but there are other applications that may not
functionwell. In some cases, one local PC can run the application properly if that PC’s IP address
is enteredas the Default DMZ Server.
The Securitymenu, shown in Figure 7-2, allows the configuration of a Default DMZ Server.

Respond to Ping on Internet WANPort
If you wantthe router to respond to a 'ping' from the Internet, click the ‘Respond to Pingon
InternetWAN Port’ check box. This should only be used as a diagnostictool, since it allows your
routerto be discovered.Don't check this box unless you have a specific reason to do so.
Note: For security, you should avoid using the Default DMZ Server feature. When a
computeris designated as the Default DMZ Server, it loses much of the protection of the
router, and is exposed to many exploits from the Internet. If compromised, the computer
can be usedto attack your network.
