Basic Camera Setup

Motion Detection

dbutton Mz(Setup menu) (A170) MMotion detection

Enable motion detection to reduce the effects of subject movement and camera shake when shooting still images.

UAuto (default setting)

When the camera detects subject movement or camera shake, the ISO sensitivity and shutter speed are automatically increased to reduce blurring.

However, motion detection does not function in the following situations.

When the flash mode is set to fill-flash

In A(auto) mode, when ISO sensitivity (A52) is set to any setting other than

Auto

In the following scene modes:

-j (night landscape) (A64)

-S(night portrait) (A65)

-R(backlighting) (A66)

-Sports (A68), Dusk/dawn (A70), Museum (A72), Fireworks show

(A72), Panorama (when Easy panorama is selected) (A73), Pet portrait (A74)

AF area mode is in subject tracking (A58)

In continuous shooting mode (A80)

Motion detection is not enabled.

The current motion detection setting can be confirmed in the camera monitor with shooting (A6, 25). The motion detection icon turns green when the camera detects camera shake and increases shutter speed. When Off is selected, no icon is displayed.

BNotes on Motion Detection

Motion detection may be unable to completely eliminate the effects of subject movement and camera shake in some situations.

Motion detection may not function if the subject exhibits significant movement or is too dark.

180 The images captured using motion detection may be somewhat “grainy” in appearance.
