When a function does not work, check here before requesting help!Problems with fax machine
General
≥The power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the
connections (p. 27).
≥The dialing mode setting is wrong. Change to “TONE” or “PULSE”
(p. 36).
≥Disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect the line to
a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates
properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired.
If the working telephone does not operate properly, contact your
telephone company.
≥The ringer volume is set to off. Adjust it to a suitable level (p. 33).
≥The FAX ONLY mode is set. Tell them the number is only used for
faxes or change to another mode (p. 60, 61).
≥If this button is pressed during dialing, a pause will be inserted. If
pressed immediately after a dial tone is obtained, the last number
dialed will be redialed.
≥A Distinctive Ring pattern is set (p. 68, 69).
≥The TEL/FAX mode is set (p. 70–73).
≥All or part of the numbers are the same. Change the number
(p. 67, 74).
I cannot make and receive calls.
I cannot make calls.
The unit does not work.

The other party complains they only
hear a fax tone and cannot talk.
The (REDIAL/PAUSE) button does

Fax - sending
≥The telephone line cord is connected to the EXT jack on the unit.
Connect to the LINE jack (p. 27).
≥The other party’s fax machine is busy or has run out of paper. Try
again.
≥The other party’s machine is not a facsimile. Check with the other
party.
≥The other party’s fax machine rings too many times. Send the fax
manually - dial the number, confirm the fax tone, then press
(START/SET/COPY).
≥If your line has special telephone services such as call waiting, the
service may have been activated during fax transmission. Connect
the unit to a line that does not have these services.
≥The extension telephone on the same line is off the hook. Hang up
the extension telephone and try again.
≥The white roller is dirty. Clean it (p. 116).
Cause & RemedyProblem
