acknowledgement

An ￿￿C frame that indicates that a data frame has been received correctly.

address

￿n a network, the identification of a station. ￿n a frame, a grouping of bits that identifies the frame's source or destination.

ASCII

American ￿tandard Code for ￿nformation ￿nterchange. A digital coding of alphanumeric and control characters as established by the American ￿ational ￿tandards ￿nstitute.

baud rate

￿he speed of data transmission in serial data communications, approximately equal to the number of code elements (bits) per second.

bit

Binary Digit. ￿he smallest unit of data, which can at any time be in one of two possible states, represented by a value of 0 or 1.

bridge

A device that interconnects two or more networks.

Bridge Multiplexer

A ￿odicon device that interconnects a ￿odbus ￿lus network with up to four ￿odbus devices or networks, or up to four ￿￿232 or ￿￿485 serial devices. ￿ee Co￿Processor.
