5 Move the M button toward or to ad- just the recording level.

The same operation can be performed by pressing

Adjust the recording level so that the maximum sound volume from the source makes the reading swing between -4 dB and 0 dB.

6 Press the MODE button repeatedly to se- lect the recording mode (page 29).

z Whilst making a mic recording, do not connect any- thing to the OPTICAL/LINE IN socket on the portable MD.

z To use a microphone, be sure it is a plug-in-power type microphone.

- When a plug-in-power type microphone is plugged in, the portable MD will provide power for the microphone's

- If a different type of microphone is plugged in, it may not operate properly or it may cause the unit to malfunction.

zInsert the plug firmly. If you don't, the recording will not be made properly.

zUse a microphone with a 3.5 mm (1/8") diameter stereo mini plug.
