Section12. Toxicological Information

AcuteToxicity: Notexpected to be acutely toxic; LD50 (o ral, rat) expected to be >2000 mg/kg.
ChronicToxicity: Notexpected to be chronically toxic based on component inform ation, volume,
concentration,a nd intended use.
Purecarbon black, a min or component of this ink, has been listed by LARC as group 2B
(possiblecarcino gen).
Thisclassificatio n is based on rat “lung particulate overload” studies pe rformed with
airborneparticulat e carbon black.Ink is not listed by LARC,NTP,orOSHA.
Carcinogenicity: OSHARegulated(USA): Not listed
In1996 the LARC reeval uated carbon black as a Group 2B carcinogen (possible human
carcinogen). This e valuation is given to Carbon Black for which ther e is inadequate
humanevidence, b ut sufficient animal evidence. The latter is based upon the
developmentof lung tumorsin rats receiving chronic inhalationexposures to free
carbonblack at levels that induce particl e overload of the lung.
Studiesperformed in anim al models other than rats have not demonstrated an
associationbetween c arbon blackan d lung tumors.
