About i.LINK

The DV jack on this unit is an i.LINK-compliant DV input/output jack. This section describesthei.LINKstandardanditsfeatures.

What is “i.LINK”?

i.LINKisadigitalserialinterfaceforhandlingdigitalvideo,digitalaudioandother dataintwodirectionsbetweenequipmenthavingthei.LINKjack,andforcontrolling otherequipment.

i.LINK-compatibleequipmentcanbeconnectedbyasinglei.LINKcable.Possible applicationsareoperationsanddatatransactionswithvariousdigitalAVequipment. Whentwoormorei.LINK-compatibleequipmentareconnectedtothisunitinadaisy chain,operationsanddatatransactionsarepossiblewithnotonlytheequipmentthat thisunitisconnectedtobutalsowithotherdevicesviathedirectlyconnected equipment.

Note,however,thatthemethodofoperationsometimesvariesaccordingtothe characteristicsandspecificationsoftheequipmenttobeconnected,andthatoperations anddatatransactionsaresometimesnotpossibleonsomeconnectedequipment.

Note

Normally,onlyonepieceofequipmentcanbeconnectedtothisunitbythei.LINK cable(DVconnectingcable).Whenconnectingthisunittoi.LINK-compatible equipmenthavingtwoormorei.LINKjacks(DVjacks),refertotheinstructionmanual oftheequipmenttobeconnected.

About the Name “i.LINK”

i.LINK is a more familiar term for IEEE 1394 data transport bus proposed by SONY, andisatrademarkapprovedbymanycorporations.

IEEE1394isaninternationalstandardstandardizedbytheInstituteofElectricaland ElectronicEngineers.

i.LINK Baud rate

i.LINK’smaximumbaudratevariesaccordingtotheequipment.Threemaximumbaud ratesaredefined:

S100(approx.100Mbps*)

S200(approx.200Mbps)

S400(approx.400Mbps)

Thebaudrateislistedunder“Specifications”intheinstructionmanualofeach equipment.Itisalsoindicatednearthei.LINKjackonsomeequipment.

Themaximumbaudrateofequipmentonwhichitisnotindicatedsuchasthisunitis “S100”.

Whenunitsareconnectedtoequipmenthavingadifferentmaximumbaudrate,the baudratesometimesdiffersfromtheindicatedbaudrate.

* What is “Mbps”?

Mbpsstandsformegabitspersecond,ortheamountofdatathatcanbesentorreceived inonesecond.Forexample,abaudrateof100Mbpsmeansthat100megabitsofdata canbesentinonesecond.
