Picture
S6 TV reception is poor. tMake sure the aerial cables are connected securely.
tAdjust the TV aerial.
Sound
S7 The picture has no
sound. tThe tape is defective. Please use a new tape.
S8 The sound is
unstable or has an
echo.
tWhen you play a tape with the same sound recorded on both the hi-fi
and normal sound tracks, make sure AUDIO MIX in the AUDIO
OPTIONS menu is set to OFF (see page 65).
S9 You cannot select the
left or the right
channel while
playing a tape
tMake sure AUDIO MIX is set to OFF in the AUDIO OPTIONS menu
(see page 65).
tMake sure you are playing a hi-fi tape.
Playback
S10 The tape starts
playing as soon as it
is inserted.
tThis is normal. When you insert a tape with no safety tab, the VCR
starts playing automatically.
Normal recording
S11 The tape is ejected
when you press z
REC.
tThe safety tab has been removed. To record on this tape, cover the tab
hole (see page 42).
S12 Nothing happens
when you press z
REC.
tMake sure the tape is not at its end.
tIf the BL indicator is flashing in the display window, the tape
contains a programme protected by the SmartFile function (see page
90).
SmartFile
S13 The programme label
cannot be taken
properly.
tMake sure the clock and the date are set correctly.
tCheck the setting of the TV guide pages. Some stations may not offer
this service (see page 80).
tIf you start recording more than two minutes before the beginning of
the programme, the title on the label may not correspond t o the one of
the recorded programme. Manually enter the correct title using the
SMARTFILE EDIT menu (see page 83).
tIf the TV reception is poor, the VCR will not be able to take the title
correctly. Manually enter the correct title using the SMARTFILE
EDIT menu (see page 83).
S14 Recording stops
halfway. tIf the tape contains a programme protected by the SmartFile function,
recording automatically stops before the protect ed pr ogramme. Use
another tape which has enough recording space.
