1Mainswitch

Themainswitchisusedtoselectthemodeofopera tion (OFF,STBY,HEAT,HV)aswellasthelisteningsour ce. Theswitchcanberotatedmanuallyineitherdirect ion.If theremotecontrolhandsetisused,themotoriseds witch movesautomaticallytotheselectedposition.

Thefunctionofthevariousswitchpositionsisas follows:

OFF

Theamplifierisswitchedoff.

 

 

 

In this switch position the unit does not respond t

 

o

commands from the remote control handset. The unit

 

must be switched on manually by rotating the main

 

switch.

 

 

 

 

STBY

(Standbymode)

InStandbymodetheamplifierisalsoswitchedoff;

 

power

isonlysuppliedtotheremotecontrolreceiver.Ho

 

wever,

thismeansthatthe

P10cannowbeswitchedonfromthe

 

Standbysettingusingtheremotecontrolhandset.

 

 

 

HEAT

 

 

 

 

MovingtheswitchtotheHEATsettingswitchesont

 

 

he

valve heating, but the amplifier itself remains swi

 

tched

off. The HEAT setting is designed to avoid the valv

 

 

es

cooling off between periods of listening (intervals

 

of

5minutes..2hours).

 

 

 

 

IntheHEATsettingthehighvoltageisstillswitc

hedoff;

currentconsumptionisreduced,andthevalvesare

 

 

not

under load. The operating hours counter (see sectio

n

'Programs, Time')doesnotruninthismode.

 

 

 

HV

 

 

 

 

Moving the switch to the HV setting switches on val

heatingandhighvoltage.

 

 

 

This setting is recommended for brief breaks betwee

n

listeningsessions(<5minutes).

 

 

 

Operatingpositions

DISC/TUNER/AUX/AUX/PH/AUX1/AUX2/

RECORDER

Moving the main switch to any of these positions switches on the P10 completely, rendering it ready to

use; you can now listen to the selected source. At

the

sametimethesignalsuppliedbytheselectedsourc

eis

also present at the recorder outputs, and can be

 

recordedonamachinecapableofthisfunction.

 

SwitchingontheP10

The P10 can be turned on by moving the main switch from any setting (i.e. including the OFF or STBY

position)directlytooneoftheoperatingposition

s.

 

The microprocessor control system ensures that the

valves are always heated gently to the optimum leve

l,

andthatthehighvoltageisnotswitchedoffprema

 

turely.

Thesmooth,processorcontrolledwarmingupprocess

of

the P10avoidsdamagetothevalvesandextendstheir usefullife. Ifthe P10isswitchedonfromcold,ittakes aboutoneminuteforthevalvestoheatupfully.

Duringtheinitialheatingphasethedelaydisplay

 

onthe

screenflashes. Whenthecorrectoperatingtemperat

ure

isreachedandthehighvoltageisswitchedon,the

 

high

voltagesymbolappearsonthescreen. Theamplifier

is

now ready for use, the loudspeaker outputs are acti

ve,

andyoucanstartlistening.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Themainswitch:

 

 

 

Themainswitchisnotamainsisolationswitch;ev

 

enin

theOFFpositionelectricalcurrentissuppliedto

 

afew

parts of the circuit. However, the current drain in

 

the

OFFpositionisreducedtolessthan1Watt.

 

 

There is an additional mechanical mains switch

locatedonthebackpaneloftheamplifier,

andthis

disconnects the device completely from the mains

supply. This switch must be in the ON position if

you wish to use the amplifier.

It is not normally

necessaryto switch the unit off using the rear mai

ns

switch,andthisisonlyrecommendedifyouarecer

 

tain

tobeawayfromhomeforaprotractedperiod(e.g.

a

holiday).
