10 – Playback synchronized with external timecode
In this chapter, we explain playback synchronization with external timecode. The playback of all takes in one folder on this unit can be synchronized with SMPTE timecode input through the TIMECODE IN connector on the rear panel. When synchronized, the timecode time stamp
in the take is used as the starting time of that take. The playback time during playback of a take is based on that take’s starting time.

You can check the timecode time stamp of a take by pressing the INFO button on the take selection screen (see “Take selection screen” on page 34). You can also freely change the timecode time stamp of a take (see “Changing the start time of a take” on page 41).
NOTE
•• | Synchronized playback with external timecode can only play |
| the takes in one folder. Synchronized playback from multiple |
| folders is not possible. |
•• | Synchronized playback with external timecode is based on the |
| starting time of each take. For this reason, during synchronized |
| playback the order is not related to the take numbers (with the |
| following exception). |
•• | When using synchronized playback with external timecode, if |
| multiple takes have the same starting time, only the take with |
| the highest take number is played. |
Using synchronized playback
1Load the folder to be played back (See “Loading takes” on page 40.)2Either of the following operations will start synchronized playback.•• While pressing and holding the SHIFT key, press the CALL [CHASE] key on the front panel.
•• On the “SYNC” page of the “SYNC T/C” screen, set “TC Chase” to “ON”.3If there is a take that can be synchronized with external timecode, synchronized playback starts and the CHASE indicator on the Home Screen appears green.
If there is no take that can be played back synchronized with external timecode (because the time is between takes, for example), the unit pauses at the beginning of the next text that can be played back and the CHASE indicator on the Home Screen blinks.
4Either of the following operations will cancel synchronized playback.•• While pressing and holding the SHIFT key, press the CALL [CHASE] key on the front panel.
After doing this, playback and other unit operations continue. Moreover, the CHASE indicator on the Home Screen is replaced with the timecode status display.
5Conduct one of the operations described in step 3 to restart synchronized playback.
NOTE
•• | During synchronized playback, press the STOP key to stop |
| playback. The CHASE indicator on the home screen blinks when |
| synchronized playback is stopped. |
•• | When stopped, press the PLAY or PAUSE key to restart synchro- |
| nized playback. |
Timecode offset
You can set an offset for external timecode synchronization. By doing so, you can synchronize to external timecode with a set time difference (see “SYNC page” on page 46).
Rechase
This unit continues to monitor external timecode even after synchronized playback starts. Should the playback time of this unit and the external timecode become unsynchronized for any reason, the unit can “rechase” the timecode. You can set whether or not the unit uses rechase and the degree of the discrepancy before rechasing (see “SYNC page” on page 47).
