Thetransmission wasfilled withgearoil at
thefactory. However,youshould checkthe
gearoil level at this time to makecertain it
is correct.
IMPORTANT:Donot operatethe tiller ifthe
gearoil level is low. Doing so will result in
severedamageto the transmission com-
ponents.
1. Withthe tiller on level ground, pull the
DepthRegulator Lever(FF,Fig. 2-10) back
andthen all the way up until thelowest
notch in the lever is engaged.
2. Removetheoil fill plug(GG, Fig.2-11)
from the transmission housing cover and
locatethe main drive shaft situated inside
thehousing.
3. Thegearoil level is correct ifthe gear
oil is approximately halfway up theside of
themain drive shaft.
4. If theoil level is low,add gearoil by re-
ferringto A. ToCheckthe Transmission
GearOilLevel inSection 5.

Thetiller is shipped withoutoil in theen-
gine.
IMPORTANT:Donot start the engine with-
outfirst addingmotor oil. Severe engine
damagewill result if the engine is run with-
outoil.
1. Referto the separate EngineOwner's
Manualfor engine oil specifications and
capacities.
2.With the tiller on levelground, move the
DepthRegulator Lever(FF,Fig.2-10) up or
downuntil the engine is level.
3. Add motor oil as described in the En-
gineOwner's Manual.
4. MovetheDepth Regulator Leverall the
waydown until thehighest notch is en-
gaged.This places the tines in the"travel"
position,which allowsthe tiller to be
movedwithout the tines touching the
ground.
STEP8: CHECKHARDWARE
Checkall nuts and screws for tightness.
STEP9: CHECKAIR PRESSURE IN
TIRES(units with pneumatic tires)
Ontires equipped with air valves, check
theair pressure with a tire gauge. Deflate
or inflate the tires equally to between 15
PSIand20 PSI (pounds per square inch).
Besure that both tires are inflated equally
orthe unitwill pull to one side.
