Blade Clutch Disengaged CAUTION

If the cutting blades strike a stationary ob ject while mowing, stop the mower imme diately, disconnect the spark plug wire, lift the deck, and inspect the deck and blades thoroughly for damage. Make sure that the blade timing has not been disturbed (the blades should be at 90 degrees to each other). Refer to REPLACING/REPAIRING the Blade Overload Shear Bolts in Mainte nance Instructions if blades are out of time. Also, make sure the blade retaining nuts are torqued to 60 lb·ft (81 N·m).

STOPPING THE MACHINE

1.Pull the steering levers to the NEUTRAL-PARKposition and then move the FSC lever backward to the NEUTRAL-PARKposition.

2.Slow the engine down by moving the throttle to the IDLE position.

3.Disengage the blade clutch.

NOTE: Reducing engine speed prior to disen- gaging the blade clutch will reduce wear on the brake band and brake drum, increasing the life of these components.

STOPPING THE MACHINE WARNING

A brake stops the cutter blades (and blower on GHS equipped models) from freewheeling within five (5) seconds after disengaging the clutch. If the brake sys tem malfunctions and the blades do not stop within five (5) seconds, the brake should be adjusted or repaired before op erating the mower. Contact your Walker dealer.

4.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

Manual background WARNING

Remove the key from the ignition switch when leaving the mower unattended. This will prevent children and inexperienced operators from starting the engine.

5.Engage the parking brake by moving the lever forward.

IMPORTANT: When the machine is in NEU- TRAL it may slowly creep, especially if parked on a slope. Always engage the parking brake to prevent any machine movement.
