52 — Intervention required status report delay

The host should be informed when a problem is detected at the printer or at the protocol converter. If the problem is minor, such as a paper jam, the user may correct the problem before it needs to be reported. This option tells the ALLY PLUS how many minutes to wait before reporting the problem to the host. The acceptable range of values is from 00 (never) to FF (255 minutes). For example:

!ALLY!52=00;

never send I/R to host

!ALLY!52=0A; allow 10 minutes (default)

53 — Coax port timer

When data is being sent from the coax host, the coax host has control of the current output port. This option specifies the number of seconds the ALLY PLUS will wait before allowing alternate hosts to take control of the current output port. If no printable data is sent by the coax host for 10 seconds (the default), the ALLY PLUS is placed in neutral, and any host may take control. Program this option with these sequences:

!ALLY!53=0A wait 10 seconds (default)

!ALLY!53=3C

wait 60 seconds

54 — LU1 bracketing

This option enables one of two ALLY PLUS methods of outputting job boundary information to the printer. (Option #57 enables the other method.) If this option is enabled, and if bracketing information provided by the system is detected in the data stream, PFS 21 will be sent to the printer at the beginning of a print block, and PFS 22 will be sent to the printer at the end of a print block.

The bracketing information required by this option is found in FID (format identifier) type 2 data streams only. The method provided by this option is the preferred method if the user would like to have job boundary PFSs output, often required for duplex printing.

If the user is uncertain as to whether or not the system sends the information required to use this option, the user can perform a test:

Use Mode F to place the ALLY PLUS in Host Diagnostic Report mode.
