SECTION 13—BATTERIES

Disconnecting Battery Cables

WARNING

The use of rubber gloves is recommended when working with batteries.

NEVER allow any of your tools and/or battery cable(s) to contact BOTH battery terminal(s)/post(s) at the same time. An electrical short may occur and serious per- sonal injury or damage may occur.

NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 13.2 on page 62 and FIGURE 13.3 on page 63.

1.Remove the seat. Refer to Removing/Installing the Seat Assembly on page 37.

2.Remove the batteries. Refer to Removing/Installing the Batteries on page 59.

3.Cut the tie‐wrap that secures the battery terminal cap in place (Detail “B” of FIGURE 13.2).

4.Slide terminal cap(s) UP on the battery cable(s) (FIGURE 13.3).

5.Disconnect POSITIVE (+) RED battery cable from the POSITIVE (+) battery terminal/ post (FIGURE 13.2).

6.Disconnect NEGATIVE (‐) BLACK battery cable from NEGATIVE (‐) battery terminal/ post (FIGURE 13.2).

Charging Batteries

WARNING

NEVER attempt to recharge the batteries by attaching cables directly to the battery terminals.

DO NOT attempt to recharge the batteries and operate the wheelchair at the same time.

DO NOT attempt to recharge the batteries when the wheelchair has been exposed to any type of moisture.

DO NOT attempt to recharge the batteries when the wheelchair is outside. DO NOT sit in the wheelchair while recharging the batteries.

Read and carefully follow the individual instructions for each charger (supplied or purchased). If charging instructions are not supplied, consult a qualified technician for proper procedures.
