Lighting Instructions

Read and understand these directions thoroughly before attempting to light or re-light the pilot. Make sure the view port is not missing or damaged. (See Figure 33.) Make sure the tank is completely filled with water before lighting the pilot. Check the rating plate near the gas control valve/thermostat for the correct gas. Do not use this water heater with any gas other than the one listed on the rating plate. If you have any questions or doubts, consult your gas supplier or gas utility company.

1.STOP! Read the safety information above on this label.

2.Turn gas control knob fully counterclockwise to "OFF". SEE FIGURE 'A'.

3.Remove the outer burner door located below the gas control.

4.Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. If you

then smell gas,

STOP!

5.This unit is equipped with a push button pilot ignitor, which is used to light the pilot. Locate the ignitor on the gas control.

6.Turn gas control knob clockwise Cto "PILOT". SEE FIGURE 'B'.

7.The pilot is locatedon the left side of the burner. It can be locatedby lookingthrough the glassview port while pressingthe piezo ignitor button severaltimes. Lookfora spark at the pilot location, Figure 'D'.

8.Once the pilot has beenfound, push the gas control knoball thewayin(towardthewaterheater.)Immediately

press the piezo ignitor button rapidly (4) or(5) times. If the pilotwill not light, repeatedsteps (2) through (8).

Continue to hold _e gas control knob infor about

(30)seconds after the pilot is lit until the status LE.D. is flashing (one flash every three seconds is normal.) Releasethegascontrol knoband thepilotshould remain lit. If it goes out, repeat steps (2) through (8). It may take several minutes for air to clear the lines before the pilot will light.

If the pilot will not stay lit after several tries, turn the gas control knob counterclockwise

to "OFF" and call your service technician or gas supplier. SEE FIGURE 'A'.

10.Once the pilot flame is established replace the outer burner door.

11.At arm's length away, turn gas control knob clockwise C to desired temperature setting. SEE FIGURE 'C'.

DANGER: Hotter water increases the risk of scald injury. Consult the instruction manual before changing temperature.
