Use, Maintenance, and Care of the Devices
Connections
Using a torque wre nc h guarantees tha t the c onnec ti on is not too tight, prev entin g pos sible
connector damage. It also guarantees that all connections are equally tight each time.
Prevent the rotation of anything other than the connector nut that you are tightening. It
may be possible to d o this by hand if one of the c onnect ors i s fi xed (as on a test port ). In all
situations, however, it is recommended that you use an open-end wrench to keep the bod y
of the device from tur ning. Refer to Chapter 6 for part n u mbe r an d or de rin g info rmat io n .
1. Position both wrenches within 9 0 degrees of each other before app lying for ce. See
Figu re 3-7. Wrenches opp osing each other (grea ter than 9 0 degrees apart) will cause a
lifting action which can misalign and str ess the connections of the devices involved.
This is especially true when several devices a re connected together.

2. Hold the torque wrench lightly, at the end of the handle onl y (bey ond the groove). See
Figu re 3-8.
