Calibr ati on Kit Overview

The Agilent 85036B and 85036E type-N calibration kits are used to calibrate Agilent

network a nalyzers up to 3 GHz for m easurements of components with 75Ω type-N

connectors.

The 85036B calibration kit contains the following:

• one male and one female 7 5Ω type-N open termination

• one male and one female 7 5Ω type-N short termination

• one male and one female 7 5Ω type-N load

• three 75Ω type-N to 75Ω type-N adapte rs

The 85036E calibration kit contai ns the following :

• one male com bination open/short termination

• one male 75 Ω type-N load

Broadband Loads

The bro adband loads a re inst rument-grade , 75Ω terminations that have been optimized for

perfor mance up to 3 GHz. The rugged internal struc ture provides for highl y repeata ble

connections. A distributed resistive element on sapphire provides ex cellent stabili ty and

return loss.

Opens and Shorts

The opens and shorts are built from parts that are mac hined to the current state-of the- art

pre cision mach inin g.

The short’s inner conductors have a one- piece construction, c ommon with the shorting

plane . Thi s constructi on provides for extremely repeatable connections.

The female open has a s eparate-piece inner conductor that is ma de from a

low-dielectric-c onstant plastic to minimize com pensation v alues.

Both the opens and shorts are constructed so that the pin depth c an be controlled very

tightly, thereby minimizing pha se errors. Some of the opens a nd shorts have offsets. The

lengths of these offsets ar e designed s o that the difference in phase of their reflecti on

coefficients is approximately 180 d egrees at a ll fr equencies.
